April 7

I had an incredible morning running in Florence's annual 10k! There was also a half marathon as well. Registration was only 5 euro and included a free t-shirt and some goodies. I was one of the few females at the start line. I liked that though! It made me feel like a tough jock! If you thought the Italians were pushy just walking through the street, you ain't seen nothing yet. It was a mad house making my way across the start line. I know from past races that I tend to run the first leg too conservatively, so I went out hard and hoped my leggies would hold on. They did! I finished in 51:59. The route was flat and went all through the city center and the outskirts of the city. Loved hearing "Brava! Brava!" from spectators. I am totally proud of my time--a personal best! It was such a fun, memorable race. And get this. Most American races have bagels and cream cheese for runners at the finish line. Italy? Focaccia and olive oil.
