Vulgar, or hilarious? Today, I finally saw Michelangelo's David at the Galleria Accademia. Never in my life have I had a visceral reaction to a piece of art--until today. For one, the statue is huge. I had no idea it was so large at 516 cm tall. The detail is remarkable. I stared at the hand's of David for no less than five minutes. It truly seemed like he could come to life at any moment and say "Gotcha!" to all of us. (Hey, I see the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster here). It was incredible--and that says a lot coming from my neck of the woods. Michelangelo, I tip my hat to you.
