May 7

Today I did a lot of thinking about love. You know the old adage that if you love something, you ought to love it wholly, the good and the bad? Well, as I was finding myself getting angry at the throngs of people blocking my path on the way to class or the woman on the street who was angry at me for not understanding her question ("Dov'e la foto? Dov'e la foto?" She kept yelling. It means "Where is the photo?" in Italian. I understood her Italian perfectly, but how on earth do I give directions to a photo?!), I began thinking about whether or not I loved Florence. Deep in my heart, I know that I do. I simply have to accept it in all its glory--good or bad, touristy or not touristy, clean or dirty, loud or quiet, cold or warm. That would be true love.
