| The Brancacci Chapel. With an unassuming exterior, you would never know that "Florence's Sistine Chapel" lies within the church across the river in the Santo Spirito area. The frescoes are stunning and are said to have inspired Michelangelo. I actually had a group presentation on the chapel this morning, so I am quite the expert. Well, Wikipedia made me as much of an expert as it could. Seeing how beautiful art lingers in every nook and cranny of the city, I look at the hours-long line wrapping the Uffizi every morning and want to encourage people to turn away! Beauty in Florence is not confined to the walls of museums. It's spread far and wide, tucked away, waiting to be found. What a game of hide and seek. |
